Striving to Establish an Equitable Healthy Society

Urban Health Initiative Project

urban-health-initiative-projectJCSS is associated with Urban Health Initiative Project since April 2011 for improving health of urban poor and poorest and reduce infant mortality rate and mother mortality rate by promoting family planning methods. The project is being implemented in slums of Tajganj, Kheria Mod, Agra Cant and Rajpur areas. The population covered is 2,27,368.

The coverage area presented a very big challenge as the most of the population is Muslim, for whom family planning is an alien word. The project staff, mainly ORWs and PEs conducted regular intensive household visits, held various types of community meetings and events and other innovative activities like community health days. After regular intervention in respective areas the community slowly started accepting us and listening to us. Now they are using family planning methods.
