Striving to Establish an Equitable Healthy Society

Targeted Intervention Project

targeted-intervention-projectUttar Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (UPSACS) selected JCSS as one of the implementing agencies to run the Targeted Intervention (TI) Project in year 2008.

The project aims at offering prevention and care services to population with high risk groups. This population include female sex workers (FSWs), men who have sex with men (MSMs), trans gendered population, intra drug user (IDUs) and bridge population (truckers and migrants) with the active involvement of the community. These interventions seek to reduce risk and vulnerabilities associated with these population and increase health seeking behaviour by following main components of TI:

(a) Behaviour change communication
(b) Access to services for treatment of STI
(c) Condom promotion
(d) Enabling environment
(e) Linkage to ICTC, ART, Community Care Centre, RNTCP Programme, OST Centre and Detoxification services for IUDs

One of the very noticeable achievements of our intervention is that the FSWs who were not very much aware about HIV/AIDS, condoms use, STD diseases, etc., have not only started using condoms but they are also insisting their customers for safe sex. They are straight forwardly refusing to have unprotected/unsafe sex at any cost. They may be facing problems for this act but they are sticking to the use of condoms. Thus sex workers promoting the use of condom which is a matter of pride for us. It is because of behaviour change of sex workers due to implementation of TI project.
