IDU’s Family Gets Helping Hand

This is the tale of Farhan (name changed), an IDU HRG in Saharanpur. He used to take three to five doses every day and was always on a high. His family including wife, two children and mother was in a pitiable condition. He used to steal something and buy injection.

Farhan’s wife was fed up with his habit. He was registered with the targeted intervention project and counselled.

A loan was arranged for Farhan’s wife, and she purchased a buffalo and a cow so she may start life again. With her grit, she upgraded the business and now she has eight cows. Seeing his wife, he started supporting her.

In the meantime, Farhan was diagnosed positive and linked to ART. His wife was also tested, and she was diagnosed negative. She was counselled to indulge only in safe sex.

Now Farhan has given up taking injections and is now leading a normal life.
