Women Empowerment

JCSS take up several income generation activities to provide better livelihood opportunities to the communities, particularly women. The women are provided training on typing, short-hand, dari weaving, rexene bag making, screen printing, pickle, jam and jelly making etc. They are taught stitching, embroidery, cutting, tailoring, beautician courses, candle making, chalk making, potato chips making, making of handicraft items etc. The training programme also includes making cotton and paper file-folders. The purpose of training programme is to enhance their income and improve their economic status. After the training, the organisation also tries to help them get suitable employment.

The organisation encourages these women to form self help groups. The SHGs members are encouraged to save money and supported by the organisation in getting loans for establishing their small businesses and getting self dependent.

While projects of vocational nature have broader aim of economic empowerment, they also provide a platform through which social empowerment of women is also being taken care of. Through this platform the participating women discuss their issues and problems like:

  • Violence against women
  • Education, more importantly girl education
  • Health, particularly women and girl’s health
  • Nutrition, with emphasis on nutrition of girls and pregnant and lactating women
  • Participation of women in local governance
